This is only his second competition and he's only 13. Before I make any judgement call I will give him at least 4 more competition.

I am happy to see Stephen do a quad lutz, toe and salchow. I had never seen him do a quad toe before this... It's great experiénce for him to be trying all this technical difficulty. It is a lot of stuff to put together with the mental and emotional component of doing the jumps in competition. He is trying and still has a lot to learn if you see small mistakes like running into the wall after the 1st triple axel as opposed to concentrating on maintaining the flow and blending the mistake more seamlessly back into rhe routine..... These are moments he will use to learn from his mistakes. He must understand the importance of performing though as his lack of focus in regards ro performing will be his undoing if he does not make the decision to develop that aspect of his skating. i also think his growth spurt is making it difficult to be consistent and powerful. Every time I watch him he is taller. He needs to do some strength training and try to jump higher because once he gets bigger, he will no longer have that super miniscule polar moment of inertia that allows him to rotate so quickly to do quads not jumping that high off the ice. I think a little strength with some artistic focus and experience will bring this guy closer to realizing his immense potential. Go Stephen!

124 is pretty high score for three falls and one touching the ice. And I say it without hate, I felt really bad for him. He obviously is a great talent, he just melted under the pressure. That will disappear with more experience. But this time judges were very generous to him

If the jumps are not working you see how little content there is in this program :(
I'd rather have seen 1 quad, 2 3A and more choreography/less build up to the jumps. Everything Depends on him hitting the big jumps to make it work somehow.

They shouldn’t overscore him. He is good skater and this was just a bad day. He needs to learn to overcome failures. That will make him a better skater. But don’t cheat him with scores. He needs reality in order to get better. Go Stephen!

да, именно там он и "борн", но это не мешало его родителям долгое время жить на две страны, и на коньки его поставили в Екатеринбурге, где он и тренировался несколько лет, а уже потом перешел к Орсеру.

Alexander Bakulin, come on, don't you remember last season with Erokhov winning two JGP events and landing 5th in the final? With Krasnozhon winning everything and withdrawing at JWC? This field is unstable because of quads: who can do them succesfully, wins. If nobody can, a kid with no quad or even with no 3A is on the podium.
alexander bakulin
alexander bakulin - پیش ماه
Ria 3 are you really comparing junior grand prix to senior gp, or to the olympics, for christ sake? there is no competition in junior men at the moment, in my memory it's the worst junior men's field of all time (i've started to watch jgp in 2014 and there was no any worse since then). just look who won, it's a 16 yo guy without a single quad. and your canadian prodigy, who mastered all types of quads (according to brian orser), can't even beat that. it's not just "inconsistent'. it's a disaster program. but yeah, saving aliev or kolyada from their coaches is also not a bad idea, russian fans are chanting this for years
Ria 3
Ria 3 - پیش ماه
+ Alexander Bakulin Yeah. And we should save Aliev from Rukavicin (8th at NHK last year). And Kolyada from Chebotareva (8th at Oly). As each and every skater should be 100% consistent at each and every competition.

For THIS he got 124.04?.. Almost all the jumps were ruined. It's maximum... 110. What's going on, Canada?
Ria 3
Ria 3 - پیش ماه
Julia, nowhere I wrote that Petr didn't deserve his points, I just underlined that Stephen got much less. What is fair. In Bratislava Stephen got more PCS, but less than Petr in Richmond anyway. What is fair again. And he got 15 points less than the best PCS-wise skaters, like Pulkinen. Still it's fair. You assume that if a skater falls, their PCS should dramatically drop down. What's wrong. How many less PCS got Alina at Worlds where she fell three times, comparing to her gold performance at Oly? Exactly 5.16. FIVE POINTS. Was it a dramatical change? Don't think so. Once again: think without prejudice.
Julia Juvava
Julia Juvava - پیش ماه
Ria 3, if you think you are right about Stephen's points and you know the "truth", let it be so. But... between Gumennik's and Gogolev's presentation and artistry is an enormous gap, it was supposed to be more than 15 points. Also considering Stephen's falls because falls are supposed to decrease gravely the components if you don't know about that! And Gumennik had a clear programme and he deserved 71 points. More than that, Gumennik's PCS is lower than his TES which is of course right. So please don't say others to think if you don't do it yourself.
Ria 3
Ria 3 - پیش ماه
Julia, why don't you see the whole picture? Firstly, almost all junior men got higher PCS than TES (in that exact competition 18 out of 21 skaters) and this is not a question of artistry, but low TES :) Secondly, Stephen's PCS for performance was really low, he got 6.14 overall (compare it to Gumennik's 7.25). Thirdly, do you know that ladies has lower PCS factor so comparing Stephen to Evgenia makes no sense? Anya Shcherbakova got 58.96 while Petr Gumennik 71.14 - can you see the difference? Notabene, Anya got exactly the same PCS in Bratislava, so what the competition place has to do with scoring? So... please not only calculate, but also think without prejudice.
Julia Juvava
Julia Juvava - پیش ماه
Ria 3, it's not only about jumps. have you seen his components? his TES is 62.98 and his PCS is 64.06!!! Even real stars hardly get it PCS higher than TES even when they are very artistic and expressive during a performance! Show me, where is Stephen's artistry here? Ok, components of course are not only about artistry but also the presentation and impression of the image and also transitions. And what is your opinion of his whole presentation in this performance? well, the boy was completely lost! no performance at all. his PCS must be maximum 54, not 64! because when a skater falls and not once but twice or thrice and the skater is lost and doesn't show any presentation, PCS is supposed to be much much lower than TES. now compare his PCS with Medvedeva's GPFJ performance where she got PCS 56.52 irvideo.net/8XUjxgUWXBE-فیلم-های.html. Judges gave her only 56.52. Stephen has 64.06. Now compare them :) Of course she was older than Stephen and Stephen might be fine in the future but why does he have such components now? Canada is such Canada. And by the way I'm not Medvedeva's fan but she's great in presentation. So... make your calculation again.
Ria 3
Ria 3 - پیش ماه
He has a huge BV, almost 80 pts. Even with -5 GOE for his 4 jumping passes there are still a lot of points. 4Lz with a fall is worth 5.75 - more than well executed 3S, for example. And he had good 3A+3T (almost 14 pts) and 4T (10.72). So make your calculation again.

I'm sure Stephen is feeling disappointed right now, but one way or another it's good to get used to coming back from not winning, because no skater wins all the time, no matter how good they are (and Stephen is extraordinary for his age). Not even Yuzuru Hanyu wins all the time. There are many better days ahead.

+Alexander Bakulin, watch your tongue. You talk about a kid, so a word "traitor" is highly inappropriate. What's more, you lie about Canadian narrative. Every time Orser talks about Stephen, he says the kid was ten y.o. when came to TCC and he jumped triples back then. And no, there was no previous version of Stephen's bio at wikipage. I follow him thoroughly and remember it well. Please stop spreading misinformation.

the fact that this stephen duck guy has a canadian birth sertificate is another canadian lie, btw. you know why? because he is a russian citizen. and second citizenship are not allowed in russia, unless your first citizenship is not russian. in order to become a russian citizen, this stephen son of duck guy should give up all other citizenships that he had before. but we know that he is both russian and a canadian citizen , so there is no possibilty that his birth certificate is not russian
